It would be interesting to know what the briefing contained verbally in addition to the slides which, on initial perusal, show profound exaggeration. In the second slide, he presents the place as a hot spot and says the regional population is 14 million. Sierra County has a population of only 12,000 and the entire state of NM is little more than 2 million. Hopefully the recipients of this or any briefing do their homework in verifying anything presented in the slides or verbally. People can present anything that suits them, but believing it all because it has been written or spoken is a huge mistake and one too often made by the media and the folks who rely on the media.
To me, a presentation that begins with bunk loses credibility in its entirety. I won’t read it unless I get curious about calculating the number of distortions, lies, and truths in it.

This sounds like a great investment idea. Then you actually visit Sierra County and the town of Truth or Consequence, the city that they propose to place this extravagant air-park in, and your extremely disappointed. The city is run down with, nasty R.V. parks, streets riddled with pot holes that destroy your car, and a very grim economical outlook. The elected and appointed officials don’t even seem interested in making that city even presentable for future investors. Elephant Butte Lake would seem the only bright light in this investment, but even the town of Elephant Butte is small and very bland looking for a so called “resort destination”. They have very few restaurants and business’ period. The Spaceport America isn’t happening as smoothly as they portray. There have been many delays on this project and looks to be many more! Also the people of the region seem to be very displeased with the way they have been out of the loop on the planning of this development.

I am a spokesperson for the CCAC, a group of residents in the Traditional Historic Community of Cuchillo, NM. Our Valley was first inhabited by the Mimbres Indians 1500 years ago. This project you have just read about is very controversial in our coutny of Sierra. HSLD is leasing their 7200 acres from the Federal Government via the NM State Land Office on a renewable five year lease which does not include any water rights. To get the water for their project, HSLD is trying to get the City of T or C to turn over its remaining water reserves of about 500 AcFt to partially supply their needed 3,000 AcFt for this project. The City of T or C wants to come to our Valley and punch a well in to our underground reservoir that has proved over the decades to be very limited and barely adequate for our farms during drought. If HSLD is successful in getting this water travesty done, Cuchillo will die and the City will be left short of water for its existing area. The City officials are gung ho for this project, contrary to the desires of the residents, and has tried to annex the 7200 acres into the City. Like them wanting to take Cuchillo’s water, this whole thing has met great opposition, and is in litigation.
Cuchillo is the home land of the Warm Springs Apache, and the citizens of Cuchillo are proud of that heritage, and we will fight for our water with the fearceness of Apache. Remember this about New Mexico: We talk over a cold beer, but we fight over water!

Interesting concept, I am looking at various airparks for a lifestyle change once I sell my ranch in Oregon; and would be interested in investment opportunities as well. I’m a professional pilot in Bend OR.
