A victory for developer

From The Democrat in Senatobia, Miss., Melissa Turner reports:

“After an hour-long and emotional public hearing, the Tate County Board of Supervisors upheld a Planning Commission decision allowing a private airpark in eastern Tate County.”

Darrell Riddell wants to build a home for himself and six more on his 79-acre parcel. He also wants to include a 4,000 foot long turf runway. To better understand some of the opposition Mr. Riddell faces:

“I believe when a man owns a piece of property, he owns from the center of the earth to the heavens above,” said resident Gerald McLemore. “I don’t want anyone recreating in my airspace above my house.”

Town of Lacombe delays its housing project

Citing the global economic crisis a housing development in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, is being delayed from a lack of interest. Interestingly, the Town Council has elected to continue development of a proposed airpark adjacent to the Lacombe airport.

While only 12 applicants were interested in the original 41 residential lots (at below market prices), 18 individuals are interested in the airpark component of the project.

Santa Paula hangar-condo project gets more press

Bob Banman’s hangar-condo project at the Santa Paula (Calif.) airport is garnering a great deal of press. Earlier this week The Huffington Post ran a story, now the San Francisco Chronicle picked up the story and ran it both online and on page B-6 of the print edition.
