NOTAM: Heaven’s Landing closing runway June 30, July 1

Airports close runways from time-to-time. Maintenance is usually the reason. In the case of Heaven’s Landing (GE99) in Georgia, cars are the cause.

More specifically… Auto Racing. In this case, “Heaven vs. Horsepower“.

Mike Ciochetti, developer of Heaven’s Landing, has a significant background in car racing. So letting a group of drag racers take over the runway for a few hours was probably an easy decision for Mike.

NOTAM

The Heaven’s Landing runway will be closed to all aviation traffic from8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. local time, and then closed again from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. local time on both Saturday, June 30th, and Sunday, July 1st.

Runway closure is due to Auto Racing activity that will be taking place during the hours listed below.

All aviation traffic must arrive or depart prior to 8:00 a.m. or between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. The runway will reopen after 7:00 p.m. local time on each of the two days listed.

The ramp area and taxiways at Heaven’s Landing will be highly congested with automobiles and people for the entire weekend. It is highly recommended that all inbound traffic contact Heaven’s Landing by telephone in advance of arrival at (706) 212-0017. The CTAF frequency for Heaven’s Landing is 122.90, but it will not be monitored continuously.

Aircraft parking is only available in the grass area adjacent to the northeast end of the runway. All aircraft traffic is advised to back taxi on the runway as quickly as possible to make way for any additional inbound landing traffic.

Please exercise extreme caution while operating aircraft in and around the area of Heaven’s Landing (GE99) and while on the ground once you have landed.
